According Penny Power, Ecademy founder and author of Know Me, Like Me, Follow Me: What Online Social Networking Means for You and Your Business, business development is set to change in the face of a new kind of social entrepreneurialism:
What's emerging is new set of entrepreneurialism. We've heard about social entrepreneurs. We've heard about social conscious. But when I look inside the social networks, and I see the way people are communicating and the type of business models they're having, I see a new entrepreneur emerging, a social media entrepreneur, who knows that they can build a business inside this virtual world and take it to the outside world as well, based on values that they're creating inside these social networks. Now you have to remember, social networks work for people when other people are talking about them, not when they're just talking about themselves. Social networks, to me, are all about advocation and people talking about great things. It's a very viral world if people like you. And so that creates a business model where people have to think, well why would somebody like me? Why would somebody trust me? What am I contributing? What knowledge am I sharing? And when you do that, you create this new entrepreneur that understands that entrepreneurism is built on we all win together, not on I just win on my own. And, to me, that's the way the new world is going to emerge, from the ashes of the old world.
