In her latest business advice show, networking expert and author of Know Me, Like Me, Follow Me: What Online Social Networking Means for You and Your Business Penny Power explains the secret behind successful social marketing strategies:
There's a philosophy inside social networks of how people should treat one another. But business people, when they approach anything, they want to know a process. They want to know a method. And I understand that, because people want to be productive, and they want to achieve quickly. And I've created a methodology for business people to follow, which is about being known, about being liked and about being followed.
So being known is about being visible. It's about having a wide network. It's about having a brand. And you can use social media for that, your YouTube, your blogging. Twitter. You can use that, but it's broadcasting a message. You're not having conversations. Where it becomes very important, is once you're know, you need to give people the ability to also start to trust and like you. Because once you become trusted and liked, then you've become advocated, and people start talking about you as a person. And people start bringing customers to you, because they know you can solve problems for them. And that's about using social networks. So being known is know me. And that's about using social media. Like me is about being trusted and advocated inside social networks and having conversations. You have to make sure that whenever you're known, you also give people the opportunity to have a conversation with you. Now once you start having conversations with people, and you start building that trust and that intimacy, and you start liking one another, then you're going to start creating a really strong following of people that subscribe to your blogs, that subscribe to your YouTube channel, of people that want to talk to you inside your group that you might create, your social network on Ning that you might create. Once you create a following, that's when you really start to create that intensity of being able to build a business where people are being building it together, collaboratively, and you're building a very, very strong business following around what you doing.
So it's important get known, to be liked, and then know who it is that's actually following you.
